From Oops to Aha
Ever have a recipe, ingredient, or just lazy human moment where you turned an intended dish into something completely unexpected…and liked it?
Yes, I want to know. I may also be trying to gauge my audience. I’m thinking of creating a whole new blog environment, and over the next week or so I’m trying to get a feel for a couple of things: 1) do I have recurring readers; 2) why...

Lessons from a Toe
So it has been a while since I’ve injured myself to the point where it hinders me from activities I do for enjoyment. In this case, a mere broken toe proved a bit of a setback in my training, and really my lifestyle. Personally, I learned through various life circumstances that identifying emotions, feelings of frustration, anger, sadness, is an important skill to master when moving...

The Group Effect
Believe it or not, I’ve not always been a fan of running with groups. When I began running, it was actually to get away from the group/team thing. I was in high school, a member of all things team-oriented, from a competitive cheerleading squad to student council, and craved time away from my peers every once in a while.
I ran on my own as a way to de-stress, blow off steam (high school...
Week in Review
Seven. Seven weeks. Seven weeks remaining. (Great, now I’m humming the ‘five dollar foot long’ Subway commercial jingle)
This past week of training proved a little challenging for me, but I soon found out I was not alone. Several folks with whom I run were experiencing some physical and mental challenges with training as well. Regardless, I got in some miles and the breakdown...
Week in Review: Feat. Longest Distance to Date!
Though my weekday mileage was lower, I enjoyed the variety in my workouts (including yoga) and had a really strong 17-miler on Saturday…
Sunday: Recovery spinning session at Eco for about 40 minutes, followed by abs and stretching
Monday: OFF
Tuesday: Mixed up the yoga routine and headed downtown for Dave’s power vinyasa (75 minutes), where I may have held tree pose to Avril’s...
Week in Review
Sunday Should have done a recovery ride on the bike after Saturday’s 15, but opted for a day off
Monday Still feeling a little fatigued, opted for 30 minutes of yoga
Tuesday Instead of a track workout, did 4 miles of intervals at 3 min on/1 min off
Wednesday Set out for a minimum of 6 miles, and ended up doing a little over 8, including the bridge, which made me a sweaty beast to say the...

When life meets training
A few weeks ago, I talked about modifications and choices to make when vacation meets training. What about when life happens? What I mean is anything from the list of life that creeps up, tries to take over, and can affect your mind, body, eating, and exercise habits. Work, relationships, decisions, health, deadlines, finances, etc. These things affect us all in some capacity and at some point....
Week 4 in Review
Monday: Cardio and conditioning. Warmed up for about a mile: grapevine, sprint, forward/backward run, high knees, walking lunges, high kicks. Followed by 30 minutes of conditioning work.
Tuesday: Track Tuesday; same workout as last week for a total of 3.3 miles, but in the evening humidity Charleston has to offer as opposed to the morning. Followed by some abs.
Wednesday: Moving day = enough...

On this episode of 'The Hills'...
That’s right, I ventured out into the town of Isabel to gauge my immediate surroundings as they pertain to my training schedule for the week.
One word. Ok a few: hills, wild horses, stray roosters, stray dogs. But beautiful views and friendly locals! I was able to figure out a three-mile route where I feel safe, so despite my hatred for out-and-backs, I’ll make do.
Good news is...

Journey to Maui: Day 1
Mondays in my schedule are designated as days of rest, but since week one is fairly easy, I’ll be hitting up a 90-minute vinyasa class to work the core and wake up my muscles for Track Tuesday bright and early tomorrow!
What do you do to kick off your weekly activities?

The numbers game (ugh)..
So now that the trip is booked, I’m officially committed. The road to my first marathon is underway, and I couldn’t be more excited, freaked, motivated, confused?
Which training plan should I choose? How should I gear up for the massive commitment that will begin taking over my weeks starting mid-May? Should I lean out? For the remainder of this post, we’ll focus on the...

Women at Work - Do We Have Two Left Feet?
“And she is going to dance, dance hungry, dance full, dance each cold astonishing moment, now when she is young and again when she is old.”-Anne Lamott
This won’t likely be the first time you have heard someone equate this adventure called life to a dance… so we’ll forgo the after school special ‘life lesson’ music and cut to the chase! A dance is a...

I wonder...
As I read the updates of friends who have kiddos, I start to wonder:
If our parents’ generation had Facebook and Twitter when we were children…what would their updates have looked like?
On staying connected
One of the many realities of being all grown up is surroundings change. Opportunities arise, life changes, we move, we lose touch, we reconnect, we start fresh, opportunities arise, we start the process all over again. Or something to that effect. My question is, throughout the circumstances which distance us from loved ones, how do you stay connected? That’s a tough one, no? ...
My personal Rock and Roll Jesus is Will Hoge. This is no surprise to those who know me. He played a fantastic two-hour set on both Saturday and Sunday; long story short, drop what you’re doing and buy the new record if you remotely love music.
Though this clip doesn’t do justice to the dynamic live performances (it was the last song of the second night), it was worth taking and...

Queue me up!
I’m almost to the end of my summer reading list and need suggestions. Fiction or non-fiction for sure, but also any raw foodies out there have suggested reads for me?
Thanks in advance!
